How man kilograms of chlorine are in 20kg of each of the following chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)?

CF2Cl2

CFCl3

C2F3Cl3

CF3Cl

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Molar mass of CF2Cl2 = 12 + 2 * 19 + 2 * 35.5 = 121 gm/mol

Mass of Chlorine in CF2Cl2 = 71/121 * 20 Kg = 11.735 Kg

Molar mass of CFCl3 = 12 + 19 + 3 * 35.5 = 137.5 gm/mol

Mass of chlorine in CFCl3 = 106.5/137.5 * 20 Kg = 15.49 Kg

Molar mass of C2F3Cl3 = 2 * 12 + 3 * 19 + 3 * 35.5 = 187.5 gm/mol

Mass of chlorine in C2F3Cl3 = 106.5/187.5 * 20 = 11.36 Kg

Molar mass of CF3Cl= 12 + 3 * 19 + 35.5 = 104.5 gm/mol

Mass of chlorine in CF3Cl = 35.5/104.5 * 20 = 6.794 Kg
