Question

What is the theoretical yeild of Acetanilide + Bromine -> 4-Bromoacetanilide?

What is the theoretical yeild of Acetanilide + Bromine -> 4-Bromoacetanilide?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The theoreticla yeild will depend upon the initial amountof acetanilide taken during the reaction.

The reaction is

Acetanilide + Bromine ---> 4-Bromoacetanilide

Let we have started with x grams of acetanilide and with excess of bromine.

As per the equation 1 mole of acetanilide will react with 1 mole fo bromine to give 1 mole of 4-Bromoacetanilide

The molecular weight of acetanilide= 135 g /mole

molecular weight of bromine = 160 g / mole

so as per the equation

135 grams of acetanilide will react with 160 grams of bromine to give 214 grams of Bromoacetanilide

So x grams of acetanilide will react with 160 x / 135 grams of bromine to give 214x / 135 grams of Bromoacetanilide

So the theoretical yield of Bromoacetanilide will be 214x / 135 grams
