What is the difference between luminescence and chemiluminescence?

What is the difference between luminescence and chemiluminescence?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1)Luminescence is light given off after a molecule absorbs light.

Chemiluminescence is light given off by a molecule created in an excited state in a chemical reaction.

2)Luminescence is emission of light by a substance not resulting from heat; it is thus a form of cold body radiation. It can be caused by chemical reactions, electrical energy, subatomic motions, or stress on a crystal.

Chemiluminescence is the production of light from a chemical reaction. Two chemicals react to form an excited (high-energy) intermediate, which breaks down releasing some of its energy as photons of light to reach its ground state
