Unlike the prokaryotic RNA polymerase that can bind to a DNA template on its own, eukaryotes require several other proteins, called transcription factors.

Primer - strand of short nucleic acid sequences, generally about 10 base pairs that serves as a starting point for DNA synthesis.
Supercoiled DNA - compact packing of circular DNA

Nicked DNA - discontinuity in a double stranded DNA molecule
