1. Balance the following Combustion Reaction:
C2H7N+O2 -> CO2+H2O+NO2
C7H17N+O2->CO2+H2O+NO2
C2H7N + O2--->CO2+H2O+NO2
There is are two carbon atoms, so the equation becomes
C2H7N+O2----> 2CO2+H2O+ NO2
there are 7 hydrogen atoms so the right side of the equation becomes
C2H7N+O2---> 2CO2+3.5H2O+ NO2
now there are 2*2+3.5+2= 9..5 Oxyen atoms. Hence the left side becomes
C2H7N+(9.5/2)O2----> 2CO2+3.5H2O+ NO2
2C2H7N+ 9.5O2---> 4CO2+ 7H2O+ 2NO2
N is alreay balanced.
b)
C7H17N+ O2----> CO2+ H2O+ NO2
since there are 7 carbon atoms , the equation becomes
C7H17N+ O2----> 7CO2+H2O+NO2
since there are 17 hydrogen atoms
C7H17N+ O2----> 7CO2+(17/2)H2O+ NO2
C7H17N+ O2---> 7CO2+8.5H2O+ NO2
there are 7*2+8.5+2= 24.5 atoms
C7H17N+ (24.5/2)O2----> 7CO2+8.5H2O+ NO2
2C7H17N+24.5O2---> 14CO2+17H2O+ 2NO2
N is already balanced.
