Atom is the smallest non divisible particle of the matter .

J.J.Thomson proposed a model according to which it possessed a spherical shape.

The Rutherford experiment proved that atom has nucleus , which is positively charged and it occupies negligibly small volume as compared to the total volume of atom .

Since the atom is spherical in shape with electrons revolving around it in orbits , radius is a good measure to determine the size of an atom, as the volume of sphere is given as
