What is the rate constant for a reaction based on the following experimental information?
Experiment | Rate (M/s) | [A] (M) |
[B] (M) |
1 | 0.7082 | 0.39 | 0.39 |
2 | 1.216 | 0.663 |
0.39 |
3 | 0.694 | 0.39 | 0.897 |
first of all lets see how the rate changes when one reactant conc. is kept constant nd other is changed.
in 2, when A is changed to 0.663, increase factor= 0.663/.39 = 1.7
rate increase factor= 1.216/.7082= 1.7
SO we come to know that rate is linearly deendent on [A]
similarly in 3, with respect to [B], rate is decreased with increase in conc. of [B]. But it nearly remains the same. So, it can be assumed to not chnge. So rate is independent of conc. of [B].
therefore rate constant:
0.7082= k *0.39
k= 1.815 s-1
