determine the osmotic pressure of a solution that is 0.150 M in glucose and 0.170 M in sodium chlorate at 37 degrees celsius. assume no ion paring

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Osmotic pressure = no of ions x MRT

M = Molarity

R = gas constant = 0.0821 L.atm/K/mol

T = temperature = 37 degrees celsius = 37 + 273 K = 310 K

Given that molarity of glucose M1 = 0.150 M

molarity of sodium chlorate M2 = 0.170

Osmotic pressure = no of ions x MRT

Osmotic pressure = Osmotic pressure of glucose + Osmotic pressure of sodium chlorate

= 1 x M1 RT + 2 M2 RT

= (M1 + 2 M2 ) RT

= (0.150 + 2x 0.170) (0.0821) (310)

= 12.47 atm

osmotic pressure = 12.47 atm

Therefore, osmotic pressure of given solution = 12.47 atm
