In an acid-base neutralization reaction, 43.74 mL of 0.500 M potassium hydroxide reacts with 50.00 mL of sulfuric acid solution. What is the concentration of the H2SO4 solution?

H2SO4(aq) + 2KOH(aq) ---> 2 H2O(l) + K2SO4(aq)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

H2SO4(aq) + 2KOH(aq) ---> 2 H2O(l) + K2SO4(aq)

1 mole          2 moles

KOH

molarity    M1 = 0.5M

volume      V1 = 43.74ml

no of moles n1 = 2

H2SO4

Molarity   M2 =

Volume   V2 = 50ml

no of moles n2 = 1

M1V1`/n1     = M2V2/n2

M2         = M1V1n2/V2n1

             = 0.5*43.74*1/50*2

            = 0.2187M

concentration of H2SO4 is 0.2187M
