Using compounds containing no more than 4 carbon atoms as your only organic starting material outline a synthesis for 2,5-dimethyl-3-hexanone. b. Repeat synthesis starting with alcohols only c. Repeat the synthesis starting with alkanes only

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution :-

The synthesis of the 2,5-dimethyl-3-hexanone using the different organic starting materials is shown in the following image.

in the first step ethyne (acetylene) is the starting material used with 2 carbons and then other alkyl groups added.

in the second reaction using the alcohols the -methyl--propanol is used as starting alcohol and converted to the product.

in the third reaction -methylpropane is used as starting reactant and converted to the final product.
