Question

Balance the equation C12H22O11 + 6O2 -----> CH3CH(OH)COOH + CO2

Balance the equation

C12H22O11 + 6O2 -----> CH3CH(OH)COOH + CO2

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer – We are given the reaction –

C12H22O11 + O2 -----> CH3CH(OH)COOH + CO2

First we need to balance the C – in the reactant side there are 12 C and in the product side there are 4 C, so we need 12 C in the product side also, so

C12H22O11 + O2 -----> 11/3 CH3CH(OH)COOH + CO2

Now we need to balance the O- in the reactant side there are 13 O and in the product side there are 13 O, so it gets balanced

Now for H - in the reactant side there are 22 H and in the product side there are 33 H, so we need 33 H in reactant also and need to convert 11/3 to whole number, so multiply by 3 to all

3 C12H22O11 + 3 O2 -----> 11 CH3CH(OH)COOH + 3 CO2
