Compare the two graphs you have constructed. What differences do you observe? What is the significance of these differences? Did you successfully purify acetone in the simple and/or fractional distillation.

Looking at the graph we can say that fractional distillation is more efficient in separation. We have been able to purify acetone by fractional distillation, as opposed to simple distillation, wherein the impurities distill out along with acetone during purification. The vertical line in fraction distillation curve shows the constant boiling component of mixture comes off at that point, that is acetone. The temperature is increases slowly, once it reached the boiling point no change in temperature is observed, until all of acetone has come off. After this, the temperature of mixture again rises. Thus, acetone is successfully purified by fractional distillation method.
