What is the largest buret that will deliver 4.8mL with an accuracy of 0.5%? Work must be shown.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given the volume need to be delivered is 4.8 mL with an accuracy of 0.5 %

We can solve this problen on the basis of the concept that a buret can deliver accuracy upto one-half of graduation.

0.5% of 4.8 mL = 4.8 mL x (0.5 / 100) = 0.024 mL

For the buret to be the largest one the accuracy should be 0.024 mL.

0.024 mL is nearly equals to the onw-half of 0.05 mL.

Hence we need to use a buret with a graduation of 0.05 mL.

Hence volume of buret having 0.05 mL graduation = 0.05 mL x 200 = 10 mL (answer)

Hence a 10 mL buret can  deliver 4.8mL with an accuracy of 0.5%
