Calculate the mass of Br2 required to fully react with 0.9 mmol chalcone and 1.1 mmol chalcone. Show Work

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The below reactions occurs at the time of reaction of chalcones with Br2 in the presence of an weak acid

a) 0.9 mmol Chaclone

Moles of Br required = 0.9m moles ( since 1 mole of Br2 reacts with one mole of chaclone)

Molar mass of Br2 = 159.80 gm/mol

Mass of Br2 required = 0.9 * 10^(-3) * 159.80 = 0.143 gms

b) 1.1 mmol Chaclone

Moles of Br required = 1.1m moles ( since 1 mole of Br2 reacts with one mole of chaclone)

Molar mass of Br2 = 159.80 gm/mol

Mass of Br2 required = 1.1 * 10^(-3) * 159.80 = 0.176 gms
