If the atomic radius of a metal that has the simple cubic crystal structure is (4.20x10^-1) nm, calculate the volume of its unit cell (in nm^3). Use scientific notation with 3 significant figures (X.YZ x 10^n). Note that Avenue automatically enters x10, so you only need to enter X.YZ and n. Note: Your answer is assumed to be reduced to the highest power possible.

Answer #1

Solution :-

radius r= 4.20*10^-1 nm

edge length = 2*r = 2*4.20*10^-1 nm = 4.8*10^1 nm

volume of simple cubic unit cell = [edge length ]^3

                                             = [4.8*10^-1 nm]^3

                                             = 1.11*10^-1 nm^3

So the volume of the unit cell is 1.11*10^-1 nm^3
