Glucose is a major energy-yielding nutrient for most cells.Assuming a cellular concentration of 0f 1 mM, calculate how manymolecules of glucose would be present in our hypothetical (andspherical) eukaryotic cell. (Avogadro's number, the number ofmolecules in 1 mol of a nonionized substance, is 6.02 X10^23

cell volume is 6.5x10^-8mL.

A STEP-BY-STEP is much appreciated!! I need to know how to workout this problem.

Answer #1

Sol:-

Given that concentration = 1 mM = 10-3 M = 10-3 mol / L

it means number of moles = 10-3 moles

we know that

number of molecules = number of moles x Avogadro's number

number of molecules = 10-3 x 6.022 x 1023 molecules

number of molecules = 6.022 x 1020 molecules

Now

Number of molecules in eukaryotic cell =  6.022 x 1020 x cell volume

Number of molecules in eukaryotic cell = 6.022 x 1020 x 6.5 x 10-8 mL

Number of molecules in eukaryotic cell = 6.022 x 1020 x 6.5 x 10-11 L = 3.9 x 1010 molecules

Hence

Number of molecules in eukaryotic cell = 3.9 x 1010 molecules
