the solubility o2 in water is 4.43mg o2/100g h20(20℃ and 1 atm) what is the molarity of this saturated solution.

can an aqueous solution be prepared that is 30% by mass KNO3 at 20℃? Explain

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The solubility of O2 in water = 4.43 mg / 100 g of water

The molarity = Mass of solute / Molecular weight of solute X volume of solution in L

Volume of water = Mass of water / Density = 100 mL = 0.1 L

Molarity = 4.43 X 10^-3 / 32 X 0.1 = 0.00138 molar

b) The solubility of KNO3 in water = 35 grams / Litre of water

The percentage by mass of KNO3 in this water = Mass of KNO3 X 100 / Total mass

= 35 X 100 / 100 + 35 = 25.92% (maximum concentration for saturated solution at the given temperature)

The composition of solution = 30% by mass

So it will not dissolve in water

100 kg of a solution of KNO3 in water that is 70/30 by mass is cooled from 95oC to 30oC in a crystallizer. There are two streams from the crystallizer: one stream containing a saturated solution that is discarded as waste, and another product stream that contains both a filter cake of pure KNO3 and saturated solution.
