Both are mainly differed by structure. There a kink in the cis fat due to the presence of carbon chain to the same side of the double bond.

In case of trans fat , the straight molecule chain is developed due to presence of carbon chain on the opposite side to the double bond.

Health:

Cis fat are essential they are good for our health. There is no any significant hazard found in them.

On the other hand trans fat produces bad chlolesterol which is the cause of cardiac disease. In short cis are good for health but trans fats are not.
