Calculate the average mass (in milligrams) of ascorbic acid (176.12 g/mol) in each tablet.

Procedure:

Weigh out a 0.40 g - 0.50 g sample. Dissolve in 50 mL of 1.5M H2SO4; add about 5 g KBr. Titrate immediatly with standard KBrO3 to the first faint yellow due to excess Br2. Record the volume of KBrO3 used. (Total Used- 48.54 mL) Add 3 g of Kl and 5 mL of starch indicator; back-titrate with standard 0.05 M Na2S2O3. (Total used to back-titrate - 3.80 mL)

***Concentration of KBrO3- 0.015M

A 0.2387 g sample was analyzed for ascorbic acid. it required 24.75 ml of .009687 M KBrO3 to cause the solution to turn yellow, signaling complete consumption of the ascorbic acid and formation of Br2. The solution was then treated with KI and starch and back titrated with Na2S2O3. It required 2.98mL of 0.05118 M Na2S2O3 to reach the final endpoint, signaled by the disappearance of the blue color. Calculate the percentage of ascorbic acid C6H8O6 in the sample.

According to the lab manual, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is a mild reducing agent that reacts rapidly with triiodide. In this experiment, we will generate a known excess of I3- by the reaction of iodate with iodide, allow the reaction with ascorbic acid to proceed, and then back titrate the excess I3- with thiosulfate. If you take a tablet (containing approximately 500 mg of ascorbic acid), dissolve it in 39 mL of 0.3 M H2SO4 (using a glass rod to...

You weigh out an antacid tablet and determine the mass to be 1.1990 g. After taking a 0.2455 g sample of the antacid tablet, you dissolve it in 25.00 mL of a 0.1006 M solution of hydrochloric acid in a 250.0 mL Erlenmeyer flask. After heating the solution to get rid of carbon dioxide, you titrate the leftover hydrochloric acid in the solution in the Erlenmeyer flask with a 0.09913 M solution of sodium hydroxide and determine that it takes...
