Add the following measurements and round the answer to the correct number of significant digits. Be sure to include the unit of the final measurement with the numerical answer.

             0.59 cm
36.23 cm                               This seems so simple, but I keep getting it wrong : (
      +    17.3 cm

Answer #1

On addition of these three numbers

0.59+36.23+17.3 = 54.12

The uncertainty in the calculated values is indicated by mentioning the number of significant figures. Significant figures are digits which are known with certainty.

In the figure 17.3 has only one digit after the decimal point and thus result should be reported only upto one digit after the decimal pont.

Therefore we have round off the answer. If the rightmost digit to be removed is less than 5, the preceding number is not changed.

Here also in this 54.12 will be rounded off as 54.1

I cannot figure out what I've done wrong. I cannot get the answer that they say is correct. I took the variable cost of 68,000/23,000 units to come up with $2.96 variable cost per unit. Then I calculated indifference point: $2.96 x 23,000 units + 40,000 fixed cost = X x 23,000 units + 20,000 68,080 + 20,000/23,000 = $3.83 Where have I gone wrong?   Thanks Part P40 is a part used in the production of air conditioners at Jackson...

For questions 11-13, enter your answer (a number). Use dot (.) to separate decimal places (e.g. 1.5). Blackboard ignores commas, so 1,234.56 = 1234.56. To allow for small rounding errors, any answer within 2% difference from the right answer is accepted, e.g. if the right answer is 100, then all answers between 98 and 102 are accepted. To avoid too large rounding errors, I recommend following two rules: 1. Round your answer to two decimal places, e.g. 1.2345 to 1.23,...

This week you will collect time measurements and organize your observed data into a frequency distribution table and a relative frequency histogram. Start by choosing something you can time easily in seconds. (Thing about events that typically take between 20 seconds and 3 minutes.) You will need to collect at least 30 observations. Be as consistent as you can with your time measurements. Most of you have smart phones with easy-to-use apps with timers already built in. If your measurements...
