Question

Balance the Redox Equation using the 1/2 rxn method: 1.) S2O32-(aq) + I2(aq) ---> S4O62- (aq)...

Balance the Redox Equation using the 1/2 rxn method:
1.) S2O32-(aq) + I2(aq) ---> S4O62- (aq) + I-(aq)

Balance the Redox Equation using the 1/2 rxn method (acidic):
1.) HSO3-(aq) + MnO4-(aq) ---> Mn2+ (aq) + SO42- (aq)
2.) H2O2(aq) ---> O2(g)

Balance the Redox Equation using the 1/2 rxn method (basic):
1.) HSO3-(aq) + MnO4-(aq) ---> MnO42-(aq) + SO42-(aq)
2.) MnO42-(aq) ---> MnO2 (aq)

Answer #1

Ans 1 :

Start balancing the reaction by writing the two half reaction oxidation and reduction seperately.

Then balance all the other atoms , except hydrogen and oxygen.

Balance oxygen and hydrogen atoms by adding water molecules and protons respectively.

Now add electrons to balance the charges , and then make electron gain = electron lost.

Then add the two half reactions together and simplify,to get the balanced reaction as :

2S2O32-(aq) + I2(aq) ---> S4O62- (aq) + 2I-(aq)
