First of all you have to know what is meant by the primary , secondary, and tertiary carbons. IF any carbon atom is connected with only one carbon is known as primary, if it is connected with two from the both sides called as secondary , if three different carbons from 3 differencet sides called as tertiary carbons as shown in the above picture.
