Answer #1

Carbon has 4 bond pairs , hydrogen has one bond pair and Fluorine has 7 bond pair

(According to octet rule)To complete the octet carbon form bond with 3 fluorine atom and one with hydrogen atom so that octet sholud be completed with tetrahedral structure and sp3 hydridization

From above it has been found a tetrahedral shape because of the carbon (central atom) being bonded to 4 terminal atoms. We also know that the compound CHF3 is POLAR because of the hydrogen, which has a much lower electronegativity than fluorine and therefore, more attraction would be towards the fluorine than the hydrogen.

Thus the molecular geometry of the CHF3 molecule is tetrahedral, and the molecule is polar.
