One way to state Boyle's Law is "All other things
being equal, the pressure of a gas is inversely proportional to its
volume."
a) What is the meaning of the term "inversley proportional"?
b) What are the "other things" that must be equal?
a) inversely proportional shows the relation between two variables in which product form is constant.
example - If y is inversely proportional to 'x' then the equation is of the form y = k/x (where k is a constant). it shows that if we increase one variable then the other will decreases in proportion so that the product is unchanged.
b) other things referring to the amount and temperature of the gas which should be constant according to Boyles law. otherwise, at a varying amount and temperature of a gas, the pressure cannot inversely proportional to volume.
hey, if you find any doubt feel free to ask and if you like a lesson please give thumbs up. thanks!
