e. 5.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Number of electron in Cr = 24
Electronic configuration is: 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d5 4s1
Explanation: Half filled orbital are more stable.
so instead of 4s2 3d4, we go for 4s1 3d5 where both orbitals are half filled
Since charge on Cr is +3
So, we need to remove 3 electrons
Electrons are always removed from highest number orbital
Removing 1 electron from 4s
Removing 2 electron from 3d
Final electronic configuration is : 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d3

The number of electrons in 3d orbital is 3

A shell includes all orbitals with the same principal quantum number (n). In this figure the principal quantum numbers are designated along the bottom (n = 1, n = 2, etc.) and the orbitals contained within the shell are shown as individual, colored boxes. The first shell (n=1) contains only 1 orbital, represented by 1 yellow box. The second shell (n=2) contains a total of 4 orbitals, represented by 1 yellow box and 3 blue boxes. Use the figure to...
