What does DNSA test for?
DNSA regeant:
This regeant is used for estimating the reducing sugars and thus for the presence of free carbonyl group (C=O), the so-called reducing sugars. This method involves the oxidation of the aldehyde functional group (-CHO) present in, for example, glucose and the ketone functional group which are present in fructose. Simultaneously, 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) is reduced to 3-amino,5-nitrosalicylic acid under alkaline conditions. While using this regeanr this regeant the colour of the reagent changes from yellow to orange or red, depending upon the concentration of reducing sugar present.
