Compare the reactivity of bromocyclohexane when it goes SN1 and when it goes SN2. Suppose you used a nucleophile that has neutural nucleophilicity.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Weak nucleophile favour SN 1 and strong nucleophile favour SN 2

Less hindered substrate favour SN2 ( 1 degree) and more hindered substrate ( 2 degree) favour SN2.

Bromocyclohexane is 2 degree substrate so it has sufficient hindrance for incoming nucleophile.

If we use neutral nucleophile then it prefer SN1 because neutral nucleophile is weak and also substrate is hindered.

It give give good yeild through SN1 mechanism.

SN2

It give poor yeild through SN2 because nucleophile is weak and substrate is hindered.
