A certain brand of plant food contains ammonium phosphate . What tests would you use to verify the presence of both the cation and anion in the substance ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If the plant has ammonium phosphate , the cation present will be ammonium ion NH4+ and the anion present will be phosphate ion PO4-

The ammonium ion can be tested by addition of base NaOH . If the sample liberates ammonia gas and turns the indicator paper to alkaline , the presence of ammonium cations is confirmed.

For testing the presence of phosphate ions , a standard phosphate test can be done using ammonium molybdate solution . The presence of yellow precipitate confirms the presence of anions .

For the following experiments/questions, pick the most appropriate statistical test. You have the following statistical tests as choices: some may be used more than once, others not at all.  Assume homogeneity of variance (where applicable) and the validity of parametric tests (where applicable), unless something is directly stated (e.g., “the data are not at all normal”) or otherwise indicated (viz., by the inspection of the data) which would indicate a strong and obvious violation of an assumption. This means you must...
