Will the plasma treatment with oxygen (O2) on a polylactic acid material lead to a more hydrophobic surface? why?
The plasma treatment with oxygen on a polylactic (PLA) material will lead to a more hydrophobic surface mainly because of the topographical changes in the material. the roughness in the surface of maerial of the fibres (which is assumed tobe a PLA fabric) will enhance hence making it more hydrophobic.
Polylactic acid is an aliphatic and biodegradable polymer which is obtained completely from renewable sources. It is having good fibre- and film-forming properties but due to its low melting point and high surface friction it limit its applications in many areas.
