The method of glycogen synthesis is called Glycogenesis, in which chains of glycogen are formed for storage by glucose molecules. During rest periods, this process is activated in the liver, and also activated by insulin in response to high glucose levels,

Glycogenolysis is the method in which glucose is formed from the breakdown of glycogen. It basically takes place in response to hormonal and neural signals in the musclar cell and liver tissues.
