4. In total, how much heat is required to raise the temperature of a 450 g sample of water (c = 4.18 J/oC.g) in a saucepan that has a heat capacity of 300 J/oC from 200C to 75oC?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

total heat required(q) = m*c*DT + C*DT

m = mass of water = 450 g

c = specific heat of water = 4.18 j/g.c

DT = 200-75

C = heat capacity of saucepan = 300 j/c

                                    = 450*4.184*(200-75) + 300*(200-75)

                                     = 272.85 kj
