N2 +3H2. < ------->2NH3
INITIALLY there is only N2 and H2 present.when they react they produce NH3.As the reaction proceeds the,the quantity of NH3 increases.this is rate of forward reaction.at the same time some NH3 forms N2 and H2,which is called as rate of backward reaction.
When the rate of forward reaction is equal to rate of backward reaction, equilibrium is achieved. The amount of N2 and H2 giving NH3 is equal to the amount of NH3 giving N2 and H2.at this point concentration, pressure and other parameters of reaction attain a constant value.this is called as equilibrium of reaction.
