Find the density of Freon−11 (CFCl3) at 123°C and 9.37 atm.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Freon-11 is a compound with formula CFCl3. Its chemical name is trichlorofluoromethane.

we can find density by the using ideal gas equation

PV = nRT

{ P = presure (9.37 atm ) , V = volume, n = no. of mole, R = gas cons. (0.082 atm L / mol. K ) T = temperature (396 K) }

we know that

n = m / M : { m = mass, M = molar mass (137.37 g/mol) }

so, we can substitute to get

P V = (m / M) R T

we can rearrange this to

P M = (m/V) RT

but density = mass / volume = (m / V) = d

P M = dRT

d = [9.37 atm x 137.37 g/mol ] / [ 0.082 atm L / k mol x 396 K ]

d = 39.639 g/ L
