My chemistry professor offered to give extra credit to the student who picked up trash off the side of the road, and requested those students to write a paragraph on what we did and how that relates to chemistry. Can anyone help me?

There are many types of wastes. Out of all radioactive waste is most harmful and pollutes our environment. there are many chemical wastes on the sides of road which is the major cause of pollution.

1. Combustion of polyethenes pollutes air which indirectly affects the human health.

2. Long term decay of glass parts destroy soil fertility.

3. Different types of chemicals from waste can meet into water bodies which will pollute drinking and multipurpose water.

So we have to collect all the wastes dividing in categories like

1. domestic waste

2. chemical or radioactive waste

3. solid waste etc

and these all wastes should be disposed so that they can't harm us and our environment.
