convert the Henry's constant for ethane at 20 degree C into units more suitable for use in analysing a biofilter . Is ethane good candidate for biofilterations?why or why not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

At 20 0C Henry's constant of ethane kH=20*10-4 mol L-1atm-1.

No ethane is not good for biofiltration.

Gas phase biofilters used for waste gas treatment.

Solution gas is a natural gas consisting of primarily methane and small amounts of non-methane organic compounds. When the amount of solution gas released at individual locations is relatively small and the quality is low, it is not economically feasible to recover this gas.Biofiltration can be used to treat air contaminated with methane.Methane is a green house gase.So removal of methane is necessary.

Methane oxidation is not affected by the presence of low concentrations of ethane and propane that could be present in solution gas. The methane oxidation efficiency was adversely affected by increasing the inlet loading rate of ethane.
