how can I differentiate between dilution and molarity questions?
example please
Dilution is a technique used to obtain a desired concentration (molarity, molality etc) of solute in a particular solvent.
Molarity is defined as moles of solute present in 1 L of solution.
Example:
1. How much water needs to be added to reduce the concentration of 40 ml of 0.5 M NaOH to 0.2M?
Here, this is a dilution problem since we are getting our desired concentration and applying m1v1=m2v2 , we can calculate v2
2. Calculate the molarity of 20g NaOH in 500ml solution?
This is a molarity problem where you calculate moles of solute and then divide it by volume of solution(in L).
