Answer #1

Reflectron in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer is used to separate ions. It reflects the ion beam towards the detector.

A Reflectron comprises ion source pulse, field free region, ion mirror and detector. This is the method ofions mass to

charge ration determined via time measurement.electric field accelerated the ions .this acceleration results same as

kinetic energy and has same charge. The ion velocity depends on mass to charge ratio.

The ions have less energy penetrates shorter distance and takes shorter path to detector.

Suppose you build a TOF mass spectrometer that accelerates ions to an energy of 1000 eV. The overall length of the flight path is 2.0 meters. If you want to cover a mass range up to 15,000 Daltons, and you want to ensure that a mass spectrum is completely recorded before the next spectrum begins, at what frequency can you pulse your ion source?

A mass that can oscillate without friction on a horizontal surface is attached to a horizontal spring. The mass is pulled to the right 120 cm and is released from rest (at time t = 0 s). The period of oscillation of the mass is 6.72 s What is the speed of the mass at t = 2.50s? (Please explain the work to me, I'm being told it's 0.808m/s but I can't get that answer. Thanks!)
