What is the purpose of the reflectron in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer?
can u answer it in the web or computer
not in the paper i can't read it
thanx
Reflectron in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer is used to separate ions. It reflects the ion beam towards the detector.
A Reflectron comprises ion source pulse, field free region, ion mirror and detector. This is the method ofions mass to
charge ration determined via time measurement.electric field accelerated the ions .this acceleration results same as
kinetic energy and has same charge. The ion velocity depends on mass to charge ratio.
The ions have less energy penetrates shorter distance and takes shorter path to detector.
