What is undergoing reduction in the redox reaction represented by the following cell notation?

Cr(s) | Cr3+(aq) || F2(g) | F-(aq) | Pt

What is undergoing reduction in the redox reaction represented by the following cell notation?

Cr(s) | Cr3+(aq) || F2(g) | F-(aq) | Pt

F-(aq)
Cr(s)
Cr3+(aq)
Pt
F2(g)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans. In the electrochemical cell notation-

                        I. The right side of the salt bridge (double lines) represent the reduction half-reaction. As shown, F2 (oxidation number of F in F2 = 0 , homoatomic molecule) is REDUCED into F- (Oxidation number of F in F- = -1).

Therefore, F2 is getting reduced into F-.

So, correct option is – F2(g)
