Charles completed his synthesis of triphenylmethanol lab. When taking his 1H NMR, in addition to the peaks from his product, he noticed a quartet at 3.7ppm and a triple at 1.2ppm. What compound caused these peaks and what does this mean about Charles' experiment? Lab experiment: http://www.umich.edu/~chem216/Lab%20rep%20example.pdf
Ans: Those 1H NMR peaks belongs to diethylether, CH3-CH2-O-CH2 (q, 2H, 3.7ppm)-CH3 (t, 3H, 1.2 PPM),; directly attached to oxygen, those carbon protons get more delta values than C-C attched hyrogens. Charles experiment: This experiment is fixed atmospheric presure, menas presure, inert atomphere conditins like nitrogen gas or oxygen etc., But Grignard reactions needs dry and N2 orAr gas atmosphere. i hoe you understod, if not plz comment, i will explan. Thank you
