What does "fully aged precipitation" mean?
Fully aged precipitation means the the precipitate is allowed to remain in the solution after the addition of the precipitating reagent for about 2 to 3 hours before filtering. This offers sufficient time for the ions to react with the reagent and to get precipitated. This method is adopted particularly in the case of gravimetric analysis. Completeness of precipitation is checked my adding a drop of the reagent along the sides of the glass beaker into the clear solution containing the precipitate at the bottom. If a cloudiness appears along the path of the reagent it means incomplete precipitation. Absence of cloudiness indicates complete precipitation.
