Question

What are the reactants and products in glycolysis steps?

What are the reactants and products in glycolysis steps?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Glycolysis is the reaction of lysis or breakdown of glucose to yield pyruvate , ATP, NADH and H2O or water via ten enzyme catalysed intermediate steps.

Glucose+NAD+ +2ADP+2Pi ----->2 pyruvate+2ATP+2NADH+2H2O

Steps of glycolysis:

1)Glucose +1 mol of ATP (enzyme=hexokinase)---->glucose-6-phosphate (+ 1 mol ATP)+(enzyme phosphoglucose isomerase)---->fructose-6-phosphate(+phosphofructokinase)---->fructose-1,6-biphosphate

2)fructose-1,6-biphosphate( -+ enzyme adolase)---->glyceraldehyde -3-phosphate

3)glyceraldehyde -3-phosphate +4 ADP+4Pi +2NAD+---->pyruvate+4 mol ATP+4 mol NADH
