What does an SDS-PAGE show about a protein and how is related to Western Blotting? Also, what does the Western Blot show in comparision to the SDS-PAGE?

Answer #1

SDS-PAGE is basically a method of separation of proteins based on charge ( which also determines the ok) and size while western blot is a method of the transfer of the separated proteins pattern onto a membrane and the detection. both of them are related in similar manner as Agarose gel/PAGE and southern blotting (for DNA). We try to detect a single band in a background of many bands using a labeled probe specific to the fragment of protein of interest.
