Carbonyl compounds show a *  and *  transition. However, the latter are forbidden and hence of low intensity.

Since an enone consists of a conjugated system of an alkene and a ketone, this conjugation of a double bond with a carbonyl group leads to intense absorption corresponding to * and thus the dual peaks.
