of the most common ions of the third period elements mg, al, p, and s which is the largest. (answer is P??)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

the most common ions of the given elements are

Mg+2 , Al+3 , P-3 , S-2

now

both Mg and Al will shrink because electrons are being removed from them

P and S will increase because their size because electrons are being added to them

now

of P and S

P is to the left of S in the periodic table

we know that

across the table , from left to right for a normal element, size decreases

also 3 electrons are being added to P

so

the largest size will be that of ion formed by P

Answer --> P

Why are the elements in the second and third transition series generally more stable in higher oxidation states than the elements of the first transition series? Select the correct answer below: Elements in the second and third transition series generally have a high reduction potential and thus resist oxidation. The atomic radii of elements in the second and third transition series are generally larger than those in the first transition series. Metal ions of the first transition series are unstable...
