I am experimenting on AAS and we were using an ion suppressor which is potassium. I don't exactly understand why do we have to use an ion suppressor. Can anybody is able to explain to me why?

Answer #1

An ion suppressor is a salt of an alkali metal like potassium added to suppress ionization of an analyte.

The alkali metal like potassium is easily ionized resulting in a flux of electrons which shift the ionization equilibrium of analyte towards formation of atom. Here absorption radiation and signal response is independent of temperature. Thus, it's important to use ion suppressor in AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy).

As Intensity of absorbed radiation which is the basis of AAS and is directly proportional to the number of atoms in ground state .

when regenerating ion exchanger, why do they do it by backwashing regenerant (flowing regenerant such as sulphuric acid from bottom to top, instead of from top to bottom). I understand if someone wants to regenerate sand filter they have to do it this way, since there's deposit sediment in the lower part of sand filter, but in ion exchanger, feed of water coming to exchanger is relatively clean, there shouldn't be sediment anywhere in ion exchanger. I don't think there's...

Hello! I am coding in c# and I am having trouble using boolean variables and if statements. The project I am working on is based on the users input, and the code should branch into two different options. However, I am struggling to understand how to take the users input to decide which path to take. Another problem I am having is with my if statements. After the user has inputed information and the code decides to take them down...

I am trying to make sense of nearsightedness and farsightedness. I conducted an experiment in which I determined the focal length in two corrective lenses. I found that the focal length of the lenses to correct farsightedness were bigger. I know that convex lenses are used to correct farsightedness and concave lenses are used to correct nearsightedness. Can anyone explain to me why my result makes sense or would be expected? I do not know how to relate my result...

In a mixture composed of Al3+, Fe3+, Ni2+, and Pb2+...which ion should be separated first? Please explain why so I am able put the concept to use in other questions. Also, should there be more than one way to separate a mixture composed of all 4 of these ions? and if so, why? what makes this mixture special as to why they would ask that question?

I am writing about an experiment, were were given the results. It has to do with TLC. In this experiment we are trying to find the composition of lipids in erythrocytes, butter and Egg yolk. To do this experiment we have one stationary phase (and aluminium sheet coated with silica gel), and two mobile phases (Solvent 1 is polar, solvent 2 is not very polar/ non polar). Why do we have these two different mobile phases? I noticed that in...

For example, if there are more asset than liability, the company can pay dividends. This is the question: At this point, your forecast for the balance sheet will not balance. We now need to make financial policy decisions to balance based on how you have forecast the business...
