I want to know explanation answer. Thank you.

1.Use the Activity Series to predict the reactivity of each reaction.

Place (S) if it occurs spontaneously or (N) if it will not be spontaneous,

a. (Answer_____) Co + Cd2+ → Co2+ + Cd

b. (Answer_____) Mg + 2Hg1+ → Mg2+ +2 Hg

c. (Answer_____) 2Au1+ + Zn → 2Au + Zn2+

d. (Answer_____) Ca2+ + Fe → Ca + Fe2+

2.PCL5(g) + Energy ↔ CL2 (g) + PCl3(g)

a. Determine the Kc for the reaction below. The concentrations at equilibrium are 0.35 M PCl5, 0.55M Cl2, and 0.15M PCl3

b. Based upon the calculated Kc value is this reaction considered a product favored or a reactant favored equilibrium.

3.

a.Co + Cd2+ → Co2+ + Cd

b. 2Au1+ + Zn → 2Au + Zn2+

c. Mg + 2Hg1+ → Mg2+ +2 Hg

d. Ca2+ + Fe → Ca + Fe2+

Reaction what Is oxidized ? Is reduced ?Oxidizing Agent? Reducing Agent ?

Answer #1

Ans 1.

Activity series lists the various metals in order of their declining relative reactivity. The ones listed at higher positions can replace the other metals from their aqueous solutions .

So here

a) N

The reaction is non spontaneous as cadmium is more reactive than cobalt , hence cobalt is unable to replace it.

b) S

Magnesium is more reactive than hydrogen , hence it will replace it from its compounds .

c) S

Zinc is more reactive than Gold , hence it can replace gold from its compound.

d) N

Calcium is more reactive than iron , hence iron is unable to replace calcium from its compounds .
