Explain how a polarization diagram indicates the active passive and transpassive properties of some alloys.
Alloy properties can be correlated to the polarization diagram. In the active state of metal in the alloy, the metal is prone to corrosion and we see a linear increase in the potential. When the metal comes to the passive state the corrosion rate becomes nill that is the curve flatens out vertically and we see constant change of potential occuring. The alloy when subjected to transpassive state, the corrosion rate reverse, the metal in the allot becomes more stable and thus we see oxygen evolution and almost constant potential change for the alloy.
