If 8.95 g of CuNO3 is dissolved in water to make a 0.120 M solution, what is the volume of the solution?
Molarity = number of moles of solute/Volume of the solution(L) ------(1)
Given Molarity = 0.120 M
Amount of solute CuNO3= 8.95 g
Number of moles of CuNO3 = 8.95g /125.54 g/mol (molar mass of CuNO3)
= 0.0716 moles
From equation (1)
0.120 M = 0.0716 moles / Volume of solution in L
Volume of the solution = 0.0716 moles / 0.120 M = 0.596 L = 596 mL
**For reference :
Molecular weight of CuNO3 calculation
Cu = 63.54
N = 14
O = 16
Molecular weight of CuNO3 = 63 + 14+ 3*16 = 125 g/mol
