The functional groups in the chemistry are specific group of atoms or bonds present in the molecules or compounds that are responsible for the chemical properties of the compound.

These functional groups determine the chemical reactivity of the compounds in which they are present.

Same functional groups present in different compounds react in a similar way . The nomeclature or the naming of the chemical compounds are also governed by the groups present in these compounds.
