If you try to pass an electrical current through either solid salt or solid sugar, nothing happens. If you try to pass an electrical current through salt water, you can light a light bulb; while sugar water still wont allow the current to pass. What can you conclude?

Water conducts electricity, but sugar blocks its ability to conduct.

Sugar is an inert material while salt is active.

The electrons in salt are free to move while those in sugar are not.

Salt dissolves in water while sugar doesnt.

Salt is ionic while sugar is an insulator.
